Our customer chose the Clandon Park Gates design as the project source for ironwork to be erected between two colossal red sandstone piers. There were gates hanging at the site originally, but the pattern is unknown and the general opinion was that the Clandon Park Gates design with overthrow would make a stunning addition to the castle.

Photographs and measurements were taken and a photo montage (below) was prepared to show the customer what to expect. With a railing panel on one side, and pedestrian gate on the other, the installation is a great success. The gates appear to have been there for centuries; and the garden space immediately became more inviting yet private.

A discreet monogram of the current custodians of the castle was inserted into the overthrow making the ironwork personal to the customer. Robust backstays hold the immense weight of the ironwork firmly upwards and introduce another dimensions to the work. The gates are bolted firmly down onto an 18 inch thick concrete pad which is 3 inches below ground level. The photographs below show the path still to be finished with gravel covering the concrete pad and fixing bolts.
