C18th Clandon Park

(See also Ethie Castle Gates)

This magnificent set of 12ft wide gates were inspired by the originals at Clandon Park (shown left). The gates to Clandon Park are probably by Warren and are a brilliant example of 18th Century ironwork.  The influence of Tijou, Europe’s greatest blacksmith, can be seen in the gadroon and acanthus leaf border on the base of the overthrow.

This overthrow with its spectacular detail of large waved branches of laurel and tendrils make these gates a powerful statement.
